RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, COMMENDING
A CITIZEN FOR ASSISTING IN THE APPREHENSION
OF A CRIMINAL SUSPECT
WHEREAS, no one should have to live in fear of being
victimized by criminals; and
WHEREAS, the values and comforts of community life
are best realized when people willingly come to the aid of
others who are injured or victimized; and
WHEREAS, public recognition of such assistance and
bravery can only strengthen the resolve of other citizens to
resist intimidation from criminals and increase their
willingness to assist others who have been victimized,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of National City does honor and commend
MR. CHRISTOPHER TAYLOR
for his brave and selfless actions in apprehending a suspect
who was attempting to flee the scene of a crime, when Mr.
Taylor:
1. Saw the suspect abandon a vehicle in the
center of a busy intersection and flee on
foot;
2. Took up a pursuit of the suspect, not
knowing what crime had been committed or
whether the suspect was armed;
3. Abandoned his own vehicle, occupied by his
wife and small son, to pursue the suspect
on foot;
4. Tackled the suspect and physically subdued
him, despite a severe bite inflicted on
him by the suspect, until the arrival of
National City police officers;
5. Provided responding police officers with
information which assisted them in the
recovery of two womens' purses and the
additional recovery of a stolen vehicle
and the arrest of the male suspect who
would surely have escaped.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 12th day of April, 1983.
