HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 13,839RESOLUTION NO. 13,839 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES NAVY NAME A SHIP AFTER THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY WHEREAS, the City of National City and the United States Navy have had a long-standing and harmonious relation- ship; WHEREAS, the City has contributed to and strengthened this relationship in the past by deeding 96 acres of City tidelands to the Navy in 1939 for expansion of its local destroyer base; WHEREAS, this relationship between the Navy and the City continues today and is reflected by the City's Annual Salute to the Navy week and by the numerous Naval personnel, both retired and active, who reside in and contribute to our community; WHEREAS, the naming of one of its ships after the City of National City by the United States Navy would further strengthen and reflect this long-standing relationship; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of National City hereby requests and recommends that the United States Navy honor the City and its citizens by naming one of its ships after the City of National City. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Duncan Hunter, United States Congressman. PASSED AND ADOPTED, this 6th day of Ju]y, 1982.
