HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 13,797RESOLUTION NO. 13,797 RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT CALTRANS PROGRAM EARLY CONSTRUCTION OF STATE ROUTE 54 TO FREEWAY STANDARDS EASTERLY OF I-805 WHEREAS, a four -lane expressway (named "South Bay Freeway" by the County) was adopted by the State in 1961 as the future Route 54 freeway, and WHEREAS, freeway agreements were executed by the County of San Diego, the City of National Ciy, and the City of San Diego in 1963 through 1965 for the construction of interchanges along said route, and WHEREAS, the South Bay Freeway has not been adopted as the Route 54 "traversable highway" in accordance with Section 81 of the Streets and Highways Code, and WHEREAS, the State's responsibility is limited to maintaining access control for the adopted freeway routes and constructing the future freeway, and WHEREAS, State Route 54 is identified as a needed freeway in the Regional Transportation Plan; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of. the City of National City urges CALTRANS to program the construction of the State Route 54 project easterly of I-805, to freeway standards in incremental phases, to allow access relief to the adjacent communities at an early date. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is authorized and directed to mail certified copies of this resolution to the Director of the California. Department of Transportation and to the City Manager of the City of San Diego. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of May, 1982. ATTEST:
