RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NATIONAL CITY SUPPORTING THE STAGING OF THE
AMERICA'S CUP IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY,
AND ENCOURAGING THE SAN DIEGO UNIFIED PORT DISTRICT
TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT THE
AMERICA'S CUP ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, the America's Cup is one of the top three
international sporting events in the world; and
WHEREAS, festivities related to the America's Cup will
involve residents from throughout San Diego County; and
WHEREAS, the economic impact of the event has been
estimated at over $500 million for the local economy; and
WHEREAS, the America's Cup will create significant
employment opportunities over the next two years; and
WHEREAS, the America's Cup will be the catalyst for
international conferences, arts festivals and expositions; and
WHEREAS, the America's Cup will allow San Diego County
to showcase its people and lifestyle around the world.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the
CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
hereby officially support the America's Cup Organizing Committee's
efforts to stage a world -class event here in San Diego County, and
encourage the San Diego Unified Port District to financially
support the America's Cup Organizing Committee.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 22nd day of May, 1990.
