RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL
CITY, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE FOREST CONSERVATION
INITIATIVE AND REQUESTING THE COUNTY BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS TO PLACE THE INITIATIVE ON THE
NEXT AVAILABLE BALLOT
WHEREAS, the Cleveland National Forest is one of the
largest expanses of undisturbed national open space in southern
California; and
WHEREAS, the Cleveland National Forest is of
incalculable value to the citizens of San Diego County as a
watershed, agricultural area and recreational area; and
WHEREAS, the Cleveland National Forest is home to a
number of threatened or endangered animal and plant species
including the Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, Mountain Lion, Yellow
Warbler, Englemann Oak and San Diego Thornmint; and
WHEREAS, the Cleveland National Forest is facing
tremendous development pressures, which if not controlled, could
destroy much of this invaluable ecological system.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE NATIONAL CITY COUNCIL DOES HEREBY
1. To support the Forest Conservation Initiative which
is intended to protect the Cleveland National Forest from
urbanization; and
2. To request the San Diego County Board of
Supervisors place the Forest Conservation Initiative in the next
available ballot in order to provide San Diego County residents
the opportunity to vote on this issue.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 19th day of May, 1992.
