HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 92-42RESOLUTION NO. 9 2 - 4 2 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION TO CREATE A LOCAL GOVERNMENT TRAFFIC SAFETY ASSESSMENT (SB 1645) WHEREAS, enforcement of traffic laws serve to reduce the number of collisions that involve injuries or fatalities; and WHEREAS, the State has reduced City revenues from traffic citations by more than half in an attempt to solve the State's own fiscal crisis; and WHEREAS, the loss of revenues creates a fiscal crisis for California cities which must review the level of traffic enforcement provided in view of reduced funding; and WHEREAS, the California State Legislature is currently considering SB 1645 which would create a $12.50 Local Government Traffic Safety Assessment to partially offset the losses to cities resulting from the 1991 legislation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City hereby supports SB 1645. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City pledges to support enactment of this important legislation, and calls upon cities throughout the state to actively support passage of SB 1645.
