RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO ENTER INTO AN
OPERATIONAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE
U.S. BORDER PATROL, SAN DIEGO SECTOR, AND
THE NATIONAL CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT
PROVIDING FOR MUTUAL AGENCY COOPERATION IN THE PLANNING
AND EXECUTION OF MULTI -AGENCY COUNTER -DRUG OPERATIONS
WHEREAS, the U.S. Border Patrol has proposed an agreement which
would provide for: (a) mutual interagency cooperation in the planning and execution of
multi -agency counter -drug operations, and (b) the exchange of intelligence information
required to support initiatives conducted by the U.S. Border Patrol or the National City
Police Department in the Southwest Border High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area,
(HIDTA) as defined by Section 1005 of the Anti -Drug Abuse Act, 1990; and
WHEREAS, while both the U.S. Border Patrol and the National City Police
Department recognize that they have their own distinct areas of authority and responsibili-
ty, such authorities and responsibilities often interact because of common geographical
areas, and the need to enforce the laws charged to them by Congress or the State of
California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of National City that the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to enter into an agreement
with the U.S. Border Patrol, San Diego Sector, and the National City Police Department,
providing for mutual agency cooperation in the planning and execution of multi -agency
drug operations. Said Agreement is on file in the Office of the City Clerk.
