HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 93-143RESOLUTION NO. 9 3-14 3 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO SUBMIT A POLICE HIRING SUPPLEMENT GRANT APPLICATION TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE WHEREAS, the Police Department has prepared a Police Hiring Supplement grant application for submission to the Federal Government, pursuant to the new Police Hiring Supplement Program, which is aimed at placing additional police officers on the streets of America; and WHEREAS, the City of National City is in need of Federal hiring assistance, due to severe economic hardships currently facing the City at a time when there is a critical need for additional police officers to fight crime through community policing; and WHEREAS, the Police Department proposes to hire three additional police officers under the Program, to be fully funded by the Federal Government for the duration of the three-year grant period; and WHEREAS, it is the desire and intention of the City to retain all three of the Federally - funded positions at the conclusion of the three-year grant period contingent upon the availability of local funding; and WHEREAS, grant funds received under the Program shall not be used to supplement existing funds now used for law enforcement purposes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of National City that the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to submit a Police Hiring Supplement Program grant application to the United States Department of Justice, based on the foregoing stipulations.
