RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
SANCTIONING THE NATIONAL CITY
SUPPRESSION OF DRUG ABUSE IN
SCHOOLS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, the National City Police Department is currently in the process
of developing a joint proposal between the Sweetwater Union High School District, the
National School District and the Police Department for a $100,000 Drug Suppression in
Schools grant from the Office of Criminal Justice Planning (OCJP) to fund an additional
police officer and a counselor; and
WHEREAS, the proposed project would provide anti -drug curricula,
additional drug enforcement, and parent education and counseling; and
WHEREAS, one of the requirements of the program is that a committee be
formed in the community to help develop and implement prevention, intervention and
suppression strategies to reduce drug abuse in the schools, and to assist in the review and
certification of grant proposals to OCJP that are funded under the program; and
WHEREAS, under the program the committee must meet at least quarterly
and must consist of a law enforcement representative, a school peace officer, a school
district representative, a school site staff member, parents, students, a county drug
program administrator and a representative of a drug prevention program; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department has organized a committee comprised
of the individuals named above.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of National City that the City Council does hereby sanction the National City Suppression
of Drug Abuse in Schools Advisory Committee, which consists of a law enforcement
representative, a school peace officer, a school district representative, a school site staff
member, parents, students, a county drug program administrator and a representative of
a drug prevention program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the purpose of the committee is to help
develop and implement prevention, intervention and suppression strategies to reduce drug
abuse in the schools, and to assist in the review and certification of grant proposals to
OCJP that are funded under the program.
