RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE
TO EXECUTE THE COMMUNITY ORIENTED
POLICING SERVICES (COPS)
UNIVERSAL HIRING SUPPLEMENTAL AWARD,
AND ALL GRANT DOCUMENTS RELATED THERETO
WHEREAS, the National City Police Department grant proposal for a
three -officer Neighborhood Police Team was selected for funding under the United
States Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS)
universal hiring program; and
WHEREAS, under said program, the City is receiving a grant award of
$225,000 from December 1, 1995 through November 30, 1998, to help fund a three -
officer Neighborhood Police Team; and
WHEREAS, on December 18, 1996 the Police Department received
notification from the U.S. Department of Justice that it had been awarded a 1997
COPS Universal Hiring Program Grant Supplemental Award for $300,000 over three
(3) years to hire four (4) additional officers to further Community Policing; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department proposes to use the four (4)
additional police officer positions funded by the 1997 COPS Universal Hiring to
expand the existing Neighborhood Police Team from it's current three (3) Police
Officers and one (1) Sergeant to seven (7) Police Officers and one (1) Sergeant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of National City that the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to execute the
Community Oriented Policing Services Universal Hiring Supplemental Award, and to
execute all grant documents related thereto. Said Universal Hiring Supplemental
Award is on file in the Office of the City Clerk.
