HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 97-34RESOLUTION NO. 9 7 - 34 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY REQUESTING THAT SAN DIEGO COUNTY'S SOUTH BAY CITIES SHARE IN THE BENEFITS OF ENVIRONMENTAL MITIGATION PROGRAMS ARISING FROM THE OPERATION OF THE SAN ONOFRE POWER PLANT WHEREAS, beginning in 1990, the California Coastal Commission initiated a program with San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E) whereby SDG&E was to undertake projects designed to mitigate the environmental effects arising out of the operation of the San Onofre Power Plant; and WHEREAS, to date the benefits of such mitigation efforts have affected only one coastal city in northern San Diego County; and WHEREAS, SDG&E supplies power to residents and businesses throughout San Diego County, including the South Bay; and WHEREAS, because SDG&E derives its revenues from customers located throughout the entire County, it is appropriate that those revenues devoted to mitigating the environmental effects of SDG&E's operations benefit all of those customers, including those in the South Bay. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of National City that the California Coastal Commission is hereby requested to take action to ensure that any environmental mitigation programs undertaken by SDG&E arising from the operation of the San Onofre Power Plan be carried out in such a way so as to confer direct benefits upon San Diego County's South Bay cities.
