HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 2002 - 166RESOLUTION NO. 2002 — 166 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO ENTER INTO A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE NATIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR JOINT FUNDING OF A D.A.R.E./J.O.G./SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER FOR FOUR YEARS, AS REQUIRED BY THE COPS IN SCHOOLS FEDERAL GRANT WHEREAS, the National City Police Department was recently awarded a "Cops in Schools" Gant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services ("COPS") to hire or rehire an additional new School Resource Officer to be deployed to work in and around schools as part of an overall plan to address crime and related problems through community policing; and WHEREAS, in addition to providing general police services to the schools, the officer will provide the instruction of the D.A.R.E. and J.O.G. (Juvenile Out of Gangs) curriculum; and WHEREAS, the School Resource Officer position will be funded by the grant source, the National School District and the City of National City for a period of three (3) years, with the City gradually increasing their funding throughout the three-year period and wholly funding the position by the end of the three-year grant period for at least one fiscal year. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of National City that the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to execute a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of National City and the National School District for the joint funding of a D.A.R.E./J.O.G./School Resource Officer for a total of four (4) years, as required by the COPS in Schools Federal Grant. Said Memorandum of Understanding is on file in the Office of the City Clerk. PASSED and ADOPTED this 19th day of November, 2002. ATTEST: Micfael R.
