RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
ENDORSING THE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PLAN AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY ENGINEER TO APPLY FOR A
GRANT FROM CALTRANS IN THE AMOUNT OF $450,000 FOR
PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IMPROVEMENTS AT
SEVEN SCHOOLS IN NATIONAL CITY
WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to School Program for elementary, middle,
and high schools is a reimbursable grant program sponsored by CalTrans to provide
traffic enhancements on streets surrounding schools within San Diego County; and
WHEREAS, in May 2004, representative from the National School District
organized a task force to implement the Safe Routes to School Program for the
following schools in National City:
1) Las Palmas Elementary School;
2) Olivewood Elementary School;
3) Otis Elementary School;
4) Kimball Elementary School;
5) Central Elementary School;
6) National City Middle School;
7) Sweetwater High School; and
WHEREAS, the reimbursable grant provides $450,000, which is 90% of
the funds required for the project, and the City provides the remaining 10%, or $50,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of National City hereby endorses the Safe Routes to School Program for National City
Schools.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Engineer is authorized to apply
for a grant from CalTrans in the amount of $450,000 for Pedestrian Crossing
Improvements for seven schools in National City.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 21st day of June, 2005.
