RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY AUTHORIZING
THE CITY ENGINEER TO APPROVE RESTRIPING
FOR THE INTERSECTION OF VALLEY ROAD AND
BONITA VISTA MOBILE HOME PARK DRIVEWAY TO
INCLUDE A 40-FOOT NORTHBOUND LEFT -TURN LANE,
WIDENING OF THE EXISTING "KEEP CLEAR" AREA,
AND SIGNING IMPROVEMENTS
WHEREAS, Norma Morgan, manager of Bonita Vista Mobile Home Park ("MHP")
located at 2621 Sweetwater Road, has requested that the northbound approach for the
intersection of Valley Road and Bonita Vista MHP driveway be restriped to include a left -turn
lane to provide storage for vehicles waiting to turn into the mobile home park. She is concerned
that drivers will get rear -ended given the existing short spacing between the signalized
intersection at Sweetwater Road and the mobile home park driveway; and
WHEREAS, after conducting an investigation, staff recommends restriping the
northbound approach to include a 40-foot left -turn lane, widening the "Keep Clear" area, posting
a "Do Not Block Intersection" sign for the westbound approach, and replacing the existing
chevron alignment sign located on the curve for westbound traffic with a one -direction large
arrow sign and Type N object marker (reflector) to better guide drivers around the horizontal
curve and provide warning; and
WHEREAS, at its meeting on September 12, 2007, the Traffic Safety Committee
approved staffs recommendations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
National City hereby authorizes the City Engineer to approve restriping the northbound
approach to include a 40-foot left -turn lane, widening the "Keep Clear" area, posting a "Do Not
Block Intersection" sign for the westbound approach, and replacing the existing chevron
alignment sign located on the curve for westbound traffic with a one -direction large arrow sign
and Type N object marker (reflector) to better guide drivers around the horizontal curve and
provide warning.
