HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 12,784RESOLUTION NO. 12,784 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY SUPPORTING LIGHT -RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEM WHEREAS, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit Development Board has, in response to a June 1974 vote of the residents of San Diego County, been studying the feasibility of light -rail rapid transit service in MTDB's area of jurisdiction, and WHEREAS, MTDB has also been studying the possi- ble joint use for freight and transit of the SD & AE right- of-way between the Santa Fe Depot in San Diego and the International Border at San Ysidro, and WHEREAS, a light -rail transit system will improve the effectiveness of the existing regional transit and rail freight systems and can be implemented within available financial resources and without additional local taxes, and WHEREAS, the -City of National City would benefit from the improvement of regional transit and the rail freight systems; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of National City supports the development of a light -rail transit system from San Diego to San Ysidro and urges its early implementation, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager be directed to coordinate with MTDB the planning for feeder bus stations, bus routing, levels of bus service, area development and other ancillary facilities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution is a concept approval only, and the City reserves its rights to object to specific aspects of any plan proposed.
