HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 11,277RESOLUTION NO. 11,277 RESOLUTION URGING THE CALIFORNIA COASTAL ZONE COMMISSION TO RESCIND PREVIOUS DECISION AND GRANT IMMEDIATE APPROVAL FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT WHEREAS, the current power shortage is likely to become more acute within the next few months, and even more critical in the future; and WHEREAS, it is apparent the current resources are insufficient to bring about a reversal of this trend; and WHEREAS, the United States must seriously consider the advisability of becoming independent of foreign fuel resources at the earliest possible time; and WHEREAS, the California Coastal Zone Conservation Commission has denied the request for expansion of the San Onofre Nuclear generating station; and WHEREAS, this project had previously been extensively considered and received approval of the Atomic Energy Commission, and various environmental protection agencies; and WHEREAS, this nuclear site had specifically received the approval of Congress; and WHEREAS, prompt action is necessary to begin work that will lead to development of resources of future needs, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of National City that an urgent request be directed to the California Coastal Zone Commission to rescind its previous decision and grant immediate approval for the further development of the San Onofre Nuclear generating station.
