HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 10,847 Endorsing SB 1264 Relating to Full State Funding of Public Library Services Act System ActivitiesRESOLUTION NO. 10,847 RESOLUTION ENDORSING SENATE BILL 1261 RELATING TO FULL STATE .FUNDING OF PUBLIC LIBRARY SERVICES. ACT SYSTEM ACTIVITIES WHEREAS, the City of National City has been a member of the Serra Regional Library System; and WHEREAS, membership in said System has brought numerous benefitsto the Library and people of the City of National City; to wit The extension of the book, periodical, audio-visual, and communication resources of the National City Public Library through the ability freely to borrow such materials from the other libraries belonging to the System; and through the rapid System delivery and communication services, and The improvement of library service to children in National City through the advice and assistance of the Consultant in Childrens' Services employed by the System; and Numerous other benefits of the like kind; and WHEREAS, the City of National City has experienced no impairment in its authority over the National City Public Library, nor any exercise of authority over said Library by other members of the System or the State Librarian; and WHEREAS, the continued existence of th.e Serra Regional Library System is dependent upon a program of financial assistance to library systems from the State of California; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1261 has been introduced into State Legislature by Senator Randolph Collier for the purpose of providing full State funding of Public Library Services Act system activities within a three-year period, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of National City hereby endorses Senate Bill 1261 and urges its passage by the Legislature; and Hereby instructs the City Clerk to forward a copy of this resolution to the California Library Association, the League of California Cities, Assemblyman Wadie P. Deddeh and Governor Ronald Reagon. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of October, 1972. ATTEST:
