RESOLUTION NO. 10,774
RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO
REASSESS AND TO VIGOROUSLY PURSUE THE POSSIBILITY
OF PURCHASING THE ENTIRE CAPISTRANO BEACH CLUB
SITE, TO BE USED FOR AN EXTENSION OF DOHENY BEACH
STATE PARK
WHEREAS, a study of the existing recreational and
swimming facilities at Doheny Beach State Park revealed the
urgent need for expansion and acquisition of additional
beach recreation property, and
WHEREAS, Assemblyman Robert Badham and Senator
Dennis Carpenter successfully sponsored legislation to ap-
propriate the necessary funds to acquire the Capistrano
Beach Club property, consisting of approximately 8 acres,
which would extend Doheny Beach State Park southward, and
WHEREAS, State officials have determined that an
access easement clouding a portion of the proposed land pur-
chase has made it extremely doubtful that the property could
be used as intended, without major litigation or endless con-
demnation proceedings, and have indicated that plans to pur-
chase the property may be abandoned;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of National City hereby urges the State of Calif-
ornia to reassess and to vigorously pursue every avenue of
means of acquiring the Capistrano Beach Club site property,
to be used for an extension of the Doheny Beach State Park,
thereby opening up additional coastline to the public in
keeping with State announced policy;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is here-
by directed to send copies of this resolution to Senator Dennis
Carpenter, Assemblyman Robert Badham, the League of California
Cities, the State of California General Services and Park and
:ecreation Departments.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of August, 1972.
