HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 10,774/0, 4'i4/ RESOLUTION NO. 10,774 RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO REASSESS AND TO VIGOROUSLY PURSUE THE POSSIBILITY OF PURCHASING THE ENTIRE CAPISTRANO BEACH CLUB SITE, TO BE USED FOR AN EXTENSION OF DOHENY BEACH STATE PARK WHEREAS, a study of the existing recreational and swimming facilities at Doheny Beach State Park revealed the urgent need for expansion and acquisition of additional beach recreation property, and WHEREAS, Assemblyman Robert Badham and Senator Dennis Carpenter successfully sponsored legislation to ap- propriate the necessary funds to acquire the Capistrano Beach Club property, consisting of approximately 8 acres, which would extend Doheny Beach State Park southward, and WHEREAS, State officials have determined that an access easement clouding a portion of the proposed land pur- chase has made it extremely doubtful that the property could be used as intended, without major litigation or endless con- demnation proceedings, and have indicated that plans to pur- chase the property may be abandoned; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City hereby urges the State of Calif- ornia to reassess and to vigorously pursue every avenue of means of acquiring the Capistrano Beach Club site property, to be used for an extension of the Doheny Beach State Park, thereby opening up additional coastline to the public in keeping with State announced policy; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is here- by directed to send copies of this resolution to Senator Dennis Carpenter, Assemblyman Robert Badham, the League of California Cities, the State of California General Services and Park and :ecreation Departments.
