A RESOLUTION OPPOSING ATTEMPT TO ALTER THE
METHOD OF LEVYING, COLLECTING AND DISTRIBUTING
THE UNIFORM SALES AND USE TAX UNDER THE BRADLEY-
BURNS UNIFORM LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX LAW.
WHEREAS, the existing formula for distribution for
local sales tax has been in effect for fifteen (15) years;
and,
WHEREAS, this City and others have been planned and
developed in reliance on such formula, and have made commit-
ments pursuant thereto; and,
WHEREAS, cities which have developed without a Sales
Tax base now desire to change such formula for their own
benefit; and,
WHEREAS, this City Council is of the opinion that
any change in the State Sales Tax distribution formula would
adversely and unjustly deprive its citizenry of tax revenues
due it.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of National City as follows:
SECTION 1. That this City Council vigorously oppose
any and all efforts to alter the law providing for the levy,
collection and distribution of the local sales and use taxes
as a direct and outright violation of the principle of Home
Rule, and for the further reason that such attempts will
necessarily result in gross inequity and financial hardship
to many cities.
SECTION 2. That copies of this Resolution be sent
to the League of California Cities; and to our elected repre-
sentatives in the State Assembly and Senate.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adop-
tion of this Resolution and provide for appropriate distri-
bution thereof.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of May, 1972.
