HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 10,334RESOLUTION NO. 10,334 A RESOLUTION .SUPPORTING AN AMENDMENT TO THE ELECTIONS CODE TO: ENABLE THE :SAVING OF UNNECESSARY ELECTION EXPENSE BY ELIM- INATING THE REQUIREMENT.FOR UNNECESSARY PRECINCT :OFFICE:RS. BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of National City, California as follows: 1. Chapter 7 of Division 9 of the Elections Code authorzeds the counting of ballots by electronic or electro- mechanical devices, and the utilization of such devices stantially reduces the ducting elections; and 2. The City determined that if and s.ub- workload of precinct officers in con - Clerk of the City of National City has when the City utilizes electroniccounting devices, the present requirement under Elections Code 1603'for four precinct officers results in at least one unnecessary pre- cinct officer where ballots arecounted by such devices, and the City Clerks of a number of .other cities. concur in mination; and 3. The Legislature has heretofore provided this deter - for reduction of .the size of precint boards to three members where voting machines are used, and such reduction has worked satisfactorily and equally cogent reasons exist for a similar reduction where electronic or electro-mechanical devices are Used for the counting of ballots; and 4. The elimination of one unnecessary precinct officer will result in the 'saving of many thousands of dollars of tax- payers' funds at every municipal election without in any way imparing the 'efficiency, accuracy or security of election returns. BE .IT :FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City hereby of the Elections Code by the to authorize election boards consist of one inspector and endorses and supports amendment adoption of a new Section 1604.1 to provide for precinct boards to two judges, in cases where ballots are to: be countedby means of electronic or electro-mechanical devices are provided in Chapter 7 of Division 9 of said Elections Code. BE IT :FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the City of National City is hereby directed to forward copies of this Resolution to. the League of California Cities, to the City Councils of cities in the County of San Diego, and to. the State Senators and Assemblymen representing the area within the City. of Nationl City in the California Legislature.
