OPERATION OF THE NATIONAL CITY CABLE PLANT OF ITT AND OPPOSING ANY OPERATION OF THE SCRAPPING INDUSTRY ADJACENT THERETO WHEREAS, the City zoning ordinance forbids the operation of scrap metal businesses in the City of National City, and WHEREAS, it is proposed to establish a ship scrap- ping operation on the portion of the National City 24th Street Marine Terminal, and WHEREAS, the ship breaking operation would be adja- cent to the oversea cable facility of ITT, and WHEREAS, responsible officers of ITT have informed the City and the Unified Port District that the proposed ship breaking operation would have a deleterious effect on the manu- facture of oversea cable, and WHEREAS, responsible officers of ITT have informed the City of National City that the proposed ship breaking op- eration would jeopardize the continued construction of the oversea cable manufacturing facility on the 24th Street Marine Terminal; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Natonal City opposes any proposal to introduce further scrapping operations in the City of National City. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council opposes any proposal for any scrapping or ship breaking business which would have a deleterious effect on the present and future op- erations of the oversea cable manufacturing facility under construction by ITT on the 24th Street Marine Terminal. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council calls upon the directors of the San Diego Unified Port District to refuse any proposals for the operation of scrap metal businesses on the 24th Street Marine Terminal. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20th day of July, 1971. MAYOR
