HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 9757RESOLUTION NO. 9757 RESOLUTION REQUESTING SMOKE CONTAINMENT OR MOVING OF THE NAVY FIRE FIGHTERS SCHOOL WHEREAS, the Navy Fire Fighters School has been located in National City since 1942, and WHEREAS, National City's population has grown from approximately 10,000 in 1942 to over 47,000 at the present time and the population of the South Bay area is now over 150,000, and WHEREAS, the Navy Fire Fighters School causes considerable smoke and soot with the prevailing westerly winds over National City and surrounding areas, and WHEREAS, there is major concern over the elimina- tion of air pollution in San Diego County, the State and the Nation, and, WHEREAS, the citizens of National City feel they have endured the smoke from the Navy Fire Fighters School long enough; NOW, THER$FURE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City does hereby request that consideration be given to either containing the smoke or moving the Navy Fire Fighters School from the U. S. Naval Station located in National City to a less populated area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that such remedial action be instituted by January 1, 1970.
