HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 9590RESOLUTION NO. 9590 RESOLUTION CALLING ON THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES TO REFUND THE SMOKE CONTROL PLAN FOR THE FIRE FIGHTING SCHOOL - FLEET TRAINING CENTER - NAVAL STATION, NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, the City of National City and the United States Navy have enjoyed a harmonious working relationship for many years, and WHEREAS, major portions of the Naval Station at 32nd Street are within the City limits of the City of National City, and WHEREAS, the City of National City recognizes the importance of the training activities conducted at the 32nd Street Naval Station, and WHEREAS, one of the most important training functions conducted at the Naval Station, 32nd Street, National City is the Fleet Fire Fighting School, and WHEREAS, the burning of large amounts of crude oil at the fire fighting school generate unsightly and unwhole- some quantities of smoke, soot and uncombusted debris, and WHEREAS, the aforesaid air pollution is discharged into the atmosphere in the City of National City, and WHEREAS, the aforesaid air pollution causes un- pleasant aromas, unsightly smoke, and filth from the deposit of soot on every part of the City of National City, and WHEREAS, the United States Navy, in response to repeated objections of the City of National City, assured the City Council a complete smoke abatement facility would be constructed in conjunction with the Fire Fighting School at the Fleet Training Center, and WHEREAS, the representations of officers of the United States Navy induced the City Council to abandon its objections to the operations of the Fire Fighting School in reliance upon the assurance of the United States Navy that a smoke abatement facility would be constructed in Fiscal Year 1969; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City calls upon the Armed Forces Committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate of the United States to restore funds necessary to construct a smoke control facility in conjunction with the Fire Fighting School, Fleet Training Center, Naval Station, 32nd Street, in order that the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of National City will be protected.
