RESOLUTION URGING COUNTY PLANNING ORGANIZATION STUDY
POSSIBILITY OF LOCATING AIRPORT IN THE SOUTH BAY
WHEREAS, the South Bay is experiencing a period of
unprecedented economic growth, and
WHEREAS, the continued growth of the South Bay will
be dependent upon the availability of modern transportation
facilities, and
WHEREAS, the existing major airport for San Diego
County is at Lindberg Field in the center of a crowded metro-
politan area, and
WHEREAS, it appears that Lindberg Field will not be
suitable for use by supersonic speed aircraft expected in the
1970's, and
WHEREAS, it has been suggested that an off -shore
site be established for the operation of supersonic aircraft
so that landing and take -off may occur over unpopulated areas,
and
WHEREAS, a site connected to the Silver Strand would
appear to be suitable for such an off -shore airfield, and
WHEREAS, it has also been suggested that land areas
in the South Bay may also be suitable for the location of a
new airport, including the possibility of an international air-
port operated in conjunction with the Republic of Mexico;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of National City calls upon the San Diego County
Planning Organization to study all proposed locations in the
