HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 9635RESOLUTION NO. 9635 RESOLUTION URGING COUNTY PLANNING ORGANIZATION STUDY POSSIBILITY OF LOCATING AIRPORT IN THE SOUTH BAY WHEREAS, the South Bay is experiencing a period of unprecedented economic growth, and WHEREAS, the continued growth of the South Bay will be dependent upon the availability of modern transportation facilities, and WHEREAS, the existing major airport for San Diego County is at Lindberg Field in the center of a crowded metro- politan area, and WHEREAS, it appears that Lindberg Field will not be suitable for use by supersonic speed aircraft expected in the 1970's, and WHEREAS, it has been suggested that an off -shore site be established for the operation of supersonic aircraft so that landing and take -off may occur over unpopulated areas, and WHEREAS, a site connected to the Silver Strand would appear to be suitable for such an off -shore airfield, and WHEREAS, it has also been suggested that land areas in the South Bay may also be suitable for the location of a new airport, including the possibility of an international air- port operated in conjunction with the Republic of Mexico; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City calls upon the San Diego County Planning Organization to study all proposed locations in the South Bay area for their feasibility as sites for a new jet age air terminal.
