HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 9544RESOLUTION NO. 9544 RESOLUTION CALLING FOR THE FUNDING OF THIS SWEETWATER FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT WHEREAS, in 1966 the U. S. Corps of Army Engineers approved the proposal for the construction of the Sweetwater Flood Control Channel in the Sweetwater Valley across lands in the City of Chula Vista, County of San Diego and City of National City, and WHEREAS, the financial feasibility of the Sweet- water Flood Control Channel has been approved by the U. S. Bureau of the Budget, and WHEREAS, it is proposed by the State of California to construct State Highway 54 connecting Interstate Highways 5 and 805 along both banks of the Flood Control Channel to be built as a part of the Sweetwater Flood Control Project, and WHEREAS, the simultaneous construction of the Sweet- water Flood Control Channel and State Highway 54 will result in a saving of tax funds in the amount of three and one half million dollars, and WHEREAS, the acquisition of rights of way for State Highway 54 is impossible until Congressional authorization is granted to a Sweetwater Flood Control Project, and WHEREAS, the construction of Interstate Highway 5 to the Mexican Border is also delayed pending congressional authorization of the Sweetwater Flood Control Project, and WHEREAS, the construction of the Sweetwater Flood Control Project will allow the development of commercial and industrial properties in the City of National City of inestim- able value, and WHEREAS, the immediate construction of the Sweet- water Flood Control Project is of vital importance to the citizens of National City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Coun- cil of the City of National City calls upon the Congress of the United States to authorize and fund the Sweetwater Flood Control Project through the Omnibus Public Works bill now before the Senate of the United States.
