RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE SOUTH BAY GUIDANCE CENTER
AND REQUESTING THE SAN DIEGO ODUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
TO PROVIDE FUNDING UNDER THE TERMS OF THE SHORT-DOYLE ACT
WHEREAS, the South Bay Guidance Center has treated
over 400 children and their parents since its first year of
operation on July 1, 1966, and
WHEREAS, this agency is the only source of mental
health or guidance service for all youth under 18 years of
age in the Sweetwater Union High School District, and
WHEREAS, the South Bay Guidance Center is being
phased out by the Office of Economic Opportunity on December
31, 1967, and
WHEREAS, this agency was established to provide
mental health services for all of the population near their
homes since this area has been taxed for these services for
several years and it has been necessary for our residents
to travel to the County -University Hospital in San Diego for
treatment, and
WHEREAS, the population of over 130,000 is entitled
to have these services made available to them in their area
of residence;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City
Council of the City of National City hereby advises the San
Diego County Board of Supervisors of its full support of the
South Bay Guidance Center and urgently requests them to pro-
vide the necessary funding under the provisions of the Short -
Doyle Act in order to continue the services provided by the
Agency.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is
hereby directed to send a copy of this resolution to the San
Diego County Board of Supervisors.
