HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 9332RESOLUTION NO. 9332 RESOLUTION OPPOSING A PROPOSED REDISTRICTING OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors proposes to re- district the County of San Diego to achieve population balance among its respective districts, and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors proposes to place the City of National City into a Supervisorial district dif- ferent from the district containing all the other South Bay communities, and WHEREAS, the cities of National City, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, and Coronado, have common historical ties, common economic problems, common geographic identity, a homo- geneous population, and a historical identity, and WHEREAS, the problems of the South Bay communities are mutual problems, the solution of which requires mutual, co- ordinated effort at the local, county, and federal level, and WHEREAS, effective representation at the county level requires a representative who is thoroughly informed on local problems and with an intimate knowledge of local com- munities, and WHEREAS, the best prepared and informed representation will occur if the South Bay communities have identical repre- sentation, because the South Bay areas are logically, histor- ically, and emotionally related; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City calls upon the County Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego to provide a common representation for the South Bay communities; and that the City of National City or parts thereof not be transferred to a Supervisorial district other than that in which the other South Bay communities will be placed. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of National City calls upon the Board of Supervisors to delay any final redistricting for at least 30 days to allow the South Bay communities a fair opportunity to present alternative plans for redistricting.
