HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 9330RESOLUTION NO. 9330 RESOLUTION URGING THE IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT OF PARADISE VALLEY ROAD BETWEEN CITY LIMITS OF CITY OF NATIONAL CITY AND SWEETWATER ROAD WHEREAS, Paradise Valley Road is a major artery of traffic used by an average of 6,800 cars daily, serving the citizenry to the East as a direct access to major indus- trial plants and commercial developments in the center of the San Diego Metropolitan area, and WHEREAS, the daily use of Paradise Valley Road will increase with the development of the 24th Street Marine Terminal, the re -opening of the Naval Repair Base, as well as other major developments planned by the City of National City in the industrial area, by the City of San Diego and the Port of San Diego, and WHEREAS, Plaza Boulevard shortly to be constructed through National City as a four lane boulevard, will inter- sect Paradise Valley Road at 8th Street and will have a major interchange to State Freeway 805, and when completed, the traffic volume of Plaza Boulevard is anticipated to increase to 10,000 cars daily, and WHEREAS, 8th Street is a four lane major street with a traffic volume of 14,000 cars daily, and WHEREAS, both Plaza Boulevard and 8th Street in National City will be four lane major streets intersecting Paradise Valley Road, a two lane street in the City of San Diego and County of San Diego, and WHEREAS, the traffic near National City is of suf- ficient volume to warrant four lanes, and WHEREAS, there have been numerous traffic accidents on Paradise Valley Road, including that of a San Diego City policeman during recent years due to the dangerous condition of the surfacing of the road and hazardous curves existing in the alignment of the right of way; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City hereby urgently requests of the City of San Diego and the County of San Diego, the immediate improvement of Paradise Valley Road East of National City to four lanes with emergency shoulders, eliminating as many curves as possible, to forestall the rising toll of traffic accidents and fatalities, and to provide adequate highway facilities to cope with present and projected increase in traffic flow. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the City Council of the City of San Diego, the Board of Super- visors of the County of San Diego, the National City Chamber of Commerce and the National City Junior Chamber of Commerce.
