RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING FAVORABLE ACTION ON
SAN DIEGO UNIFIED FORT DISTRICT APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL FUNDS
WHEREAS, under the terms of Public Law 89-136, the
United States of America has authorized the making of grants
and/or loans to public bodies to aid in financing the construc-
tion of specific public projects; and
WHEREAS, the San Diego Unified Port District, by
Resolution No. 66-24 adopted February 1, 1966, directed the
Port Director to take such steps as may be necessary to develop,
in cooperation with other local governmental agencies, an Over-
all Economic Development Program for the San Diego area, in-
cluding the San Diego Unified Port District, and to take all
necessary steps to acquire such funds as may be available to
the District under the Economic Development Act of 1965, for
the construction of the Port District's 24th Street Marine Ter-
minal which is located in the City of National City; and
WHEREAS, the San Diego Unified Port District, by
Resolution No. 66-25 adopted February 1, 1966, authorized the
Port Director of the San Diego Unified Port District to file
an application on behalf of said District with the Economic
Development Administration, U. S. Department of Commerce, for
a grant and/or loan to aid in financing the construction of a
marine terminal, which marine terminal is to be located in the
City of National City and known as the 24th Street Marine Ter-
minal; and
WHEREAS, the City of National City, one of the cities
comprising the San Diego Unified Port District, and various
tideland properties owned by said District, including the tide-
lands upon which the 24th Street Marine Terminal is to be con-
structed by the Port District, are located within the City of
National City; and
WHEREAS, the development, construction and operation
of the 24th Street Marine Terminal by the San Diego Unified Port
District are of vital interest to the City of National City and
will contribute immeasurably to the economic growth and progress
of the Port District and to the City of National City in parti-
cular by the creation of new jobs and the development of com-
merce affecting the City of National City, the San Diego Unified
Port District and the United States;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of National City as follows:
That the City of National City hereby endorses and
supports the development, construction and operation of the 24th
Street Marine Terminal by the San Diego Unified Port District in
the City of National City and urges the Economic Development Ad-
ministration, U. S. Department of Commerce, to take favorable
action upon the application of the San Diego Unified Port Dis-
trict, which was filed pursuant to the provisions of San Diego
Unified Port District Resolution No. 66-25.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this
resolution be forwarded to the Economic Development Administra-
tion, U. S. Department of Commerce, and that the officials of
the City of National City cooperate with said Economic Develop-
ment Administration and the San Diego Unified Port District in
obtaining favorable action upon the application of said District
which was filed pursuant to the District's Resolution No. 66-25.
