HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 9056RESOLUTION NO. 9056 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE GOVERNOR'S FOUR POINT BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, the grandeur statues of the California State Tree, the Redwoods of national fame are fast disap- pearing due to logging operations, fading out a heritage right of our future generations, and. WHEREAS, the Lake Tahoe recreational area, nation- ally renowned, is subject to destruction unless immediate preservation is undertaken, and. WHEREAS, the large influx of population to the State of California has demanded an explosion in the development of all phases of construction, utilizing all available vacant lands, and WHEREAS, areas for parks, recreation activities, open space, and fresh water areas for fish and game are fast disappearing in San Diego •County for enjoyment of the citizens of the San Diego Metropolitan area, creating a critical re- quirement for preservation of sufficient facilities to meet the needs of the future generations, and. WHEREAS, the National City Park and. Recreation Ad- visory Board and the Planning Commission have recommended. that the City Council support the Governor's Beautification Program as proposed. by Governor Brown at the 1966 Governor's Conference on California Beautification; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of National City, California, does hereby resolve as follows: 1. That the Governor of the State of California use all powers of his office to protect andpreserve the California State Tree, the Redwoods, through the establish- ment of State Parks or requesting the President of the United States to establish National Parks of certain Redwood areas in California. 2. That the Governor of the State of California undertake a program to preserve and protect the Lake Tahoe recreational area from pollution by excessive sewerage from the Lake Tahoe Basin. 3. That the State of California commence immediately to undertake an extensive program for park development through- out the State of California with special consideration given the San Diego County area. 4. That the Governor initiate a State Annual Award Program for outstanding achievement in beautification on the part of any city, organization, developer, andcitizen, layman or professional.
