RESOLUTION URGING TREASURY DEPARTMENT
AND BUREAU OF CUSTOMS TO EXPAND THE SAN DIEGO SERVICE
TERRITORY TO INCLUDE THOSE TIDELANDS IN THE CORPuRATE
LIMITS OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
WHEREAS, the Treasury Department of the United
States has established. a San Diego District Service Territory
for the operation of the Bureau of Customs and Customs Agents
in regard to products passing through the Port of San Diego,
and
WHEREAS, said Service District does not include
those tidelands supervised by the San Diego Unified Port Dis-
trict adjacent to the City of National City, and
WHEREAS, the present limited Service District Ter-
ritory for the Bureau of Customs is not in conformity with
the services provided in other sections of the San Diego Uni-
fied Port District and is therefore detrimental to the lands
adjacent to the City of National City, and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce of the City of
National City urges the expansion of said Service Territory;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of National City that the Treasury Department and.
Bureau of Customs be urged to expand the San Diego Service
Territory to include those tidelands in the corporate limits
of the City of National City in order to facilitate the growth
of said area as a potential shipping area.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the
City of National City be and is hereby directed to forward
certified copies of this Resolution to Mr. Donald C. Utterback,
District Director, The United States Custom Service, San Diego
District, San Diego, California, and to the San Diego Unified
Port District, and that said governmental agencies be urged
to pass similar resolutions in support of the City of
National City in this matter.
