RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PROPOSAL FOR AN ADDITION TO
TORREY PINES STATE RESERVE
WHEREAS, the Torrey Pine is a unique and rare tree
indigenous to only two small areas: (1) Del Mar and the Torrey
Pines State Reserve, and (2) Santa Rosa Island, and
WHEREAS, the groves of Torrey Pines south and east
of Del Mar constitute an important natural asset and the pro-
tection of natural resources for the benefit of present and
future generations is a task of increasing importance, and
WHEREAS, the proposed addition to the Torrey Pines
State Reserve includes not only the northernmost stands of
Torrey Pines, but also sites for varied recreational activities
such as hiking, riding, camping, picnicking and nature walks,
and
WHEREAS, the incorporation of the proposed area
into the Torrey Pines State Reserve would benefit all visitors
and residents alike;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council
of the City of National City, California, that the Council
hereby supports the Proposal for an Addition to Torrey Pines
State Reserve, and urges the State of California Department of
Parks and Recreation and our elected representatives to imple-
ment this proposal as expeditiously as possible.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of June, 1965.
