HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 8961RESOLUTION NO. 8961 RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING EXPANSION OF FORT ROSECRANS NATIONTgL CEPVIETARY WHEREAS, a qualified veteran has a legal entitle- ment to burial in a national cemetary, and burial space within the present boundaries of Fort Rosecrans National Cemetary, San Diego, California, will be non-existent within 1 to 12 years, and WHEREAS, the overwhelming majority of retired U.S. Navy and Maxine officers and enlisted men reside in San Diego County, California, and the condition of no space available will deprive the veterans of one of the largest veteran population centers in our country of their legal entitlement, and WHEREAS, there is considerable unused and under- developed lan bordering this national cemetary suitable for burial purposes and under the control of the Depart- ment of the Navy, including approximately ten acres of land lying West of Memorial Drive and adjacent to the North border of the national cemetary, which could be readily annexed to the national cemetary, and the annex- ation of this parcel of land would add materially to the present available space, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THIS RESOLUTION BE a petition to the Bureau of Yards and Docks, Department of the Navy, to transfer title of the described land, to the Quarter- master, United States Engineers for annexation to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetary. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT THIS Resolution be widely disseminated among all veterans organizations, the members of Congress and the House of Representatives representing San Diego County, and other appropriate organizations. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20 day of July, 1965.
