HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 8445RESOLUTION NO. e445 RESOLUTION URGING THE ADOPTION OF THE TIJUANA RIVER BED AS THE LOCATION FOR PROPOSED FLOOD CONTROL CHANNEL WHEREAS, the United States Government is presently planning the construction of a flood control channel near the international boundary between the United States and Baja California in conjunction with flood control work to be per- formed by the Mexican Government; and WHEREAS, the completion of this project can provide multiple benefits to the entire metropolitan area on both sides of the border by increasing the utilization of land in the Tijuana delta area; and WHEREAS, an unlined channel aong the axis of the Tijuana River bed would provide the most efficient drainage and reclaim the maximum land area; and WHEREAS, an unlined channel following the present river bed would facilitate the early development of a small boat basin in the Imperial Beach marsh lands; and WHEREAS, a channel following the axis of the Tijuana River bed would lessen the expense of the South Bay ship chan- nel if and when a determination to construct such a channel is finally made; and WHEREAS, the coordination of the flood control channel with a future ship channel would avoid duplicating right-of-way expenditures and conserve level industrial land which is pain- fully scarce in this area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of National City, California, as follows: That the National City City Council hereby urges the International Boundary and Water Commission and the Army Corps of Engineers to adopt the Tijuana River bed as the location for the proposed flood control channel.
