RESOLUTION URGING THE ADOPTION OF THE TIJUANA
RIVER BED AS THE LOCATION FOR PROPOSED FLOOD CONTROL CHANNEL
WHEREAS, the United States Government is presently
planning the construction of a flood control channel near the
international boundary between the United States and Baja
California in conjunction with flood control work to be per-
formed by the Mexican Government; and
WHEREAS, the completion of this project can provide
multiple benefits to the entire metropolitan area on both
sides of the border by increasing the utilization of land in
the Tijuana delta area; and
WHEREAS, an unlined channel aong the axis of the
Tijuana River bed would provide the most efficient drainage
and reclaim the maximum land area; and
WHEREAS, an unlined channel following the present
river bed would facilitate the early development of a small
boat basin in the Imperial Beach marsh lands; and
WHEREAS, a channel following the axis of the Tijuana
River bed would lessen the expense of the South Bay ship chan-
nel if and when a determination to construct such a channel
is finally made; and
WHEREAS, the coordination of the flood control channel
with a future ship channel would avoid duplicating right-of-way
expenditures and conserve level industrial land which is pain-
fully scarce in this area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of National City, California, as follows:
That the National City City Council hereby urges the
International Boundary and Water Commission and the Army Corps
