HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 8446RESOLUTION NO. 8446 :RESOLUTION PLEDGING SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE TO UNIFIED PORT DISTRICT IN INVESTIGATING FREIGHT RATES IN SAN DI EGO AREA FOR THE PURPOSE OF EQUALIZING THEM WITH OTHER MAJOR PORT CITIES ON THE PACIFIC COAST WHEREAS, the rates charged for freight shipments on the Pacific Coast of the United States are not equal as between the cities and counties therein, and WHEREAS, freight rates within the county of San Diego are generally higher than those of other major port cities on the Pacific Coast of the United States, and WHEREAS, the variance in freight rates adversely affects San Diego County's and the Unified Port District's com- petitive position in shipping, manufacturing, processing, fab- rication distribution and increases our consumers' cost of living, and WHEREAS, the Unified Port District is vitally interested in the freight rates of the county of San Diego and is the best equipped of all entities within the county to carry out the proper investigations of these rates that are necessary, and WHEREAS, the Unified Port District and their departments, staffs, and facilities are well qualified to analyse, investigate and effectuate a change in those matters relating to freight rates, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of National City, California, that we request the Unified Port District to assume the responsibility of investigating the freight rates of the San Diego area and make every effort to equalize these freight rates with the other major port cities of the Pacific Coast of the United States, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City pledges its support and assistance to the Unified Port District in this project.
