HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 8310RESOLUTION NO. 8310 RESOLUTION OPPOSING ANY LEGISLATION WHICH PERMITS OR SANCTIONS CENTRALIZED CONTROL OF LOCAL PUBLIC LIBRARIES WHEREAS in the past there have been attempts to enact legislation which would tend to remove local control of public libraries and place such control in the hands of the State Librarian, and WHEREAS it is presently pending before the State Legislature, a new bill entitled "State Aid for Public Libraries Bill (AB 590)", which proposed legislation would accomplish the purpose described in the preceding paragraph, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of National City resolves as follows: That the City Council vigorously voices its oppos- ition to the enactment of Assembly Bill 590 of the 1963 Regular Session; the City Council hereby urges that every effort be made to defeat this or any bill or resolution which would centralize control of local public libraries in the office of the State Librarian and the City Council recommends that other cities of the State of California be alerted to the damage of such proposed legislation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the City of National City is hereby authorized and directed to send a copy of this resolution to Senator Jack Schrade and to each representative of the people of National City in the State Legislative Assembly. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of February, 1963. ATTEST: CITY CLERK
