CITY Chamber of Commerce...BtJLLETI1 1318 National Avenue May 1, 1956 RESOLUTION NO. 6642 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The following is the text of a resolution proclaiming this week as "NATIONAL CITY VISITORS WEEK"-- passed today by the City Council of National City. A PROCLAMATION, PASSED BY RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL, MAY 1, 1956 In this week of National City's famed (9th ANNUAL) DAYTIME BAND REVIEW and the completion of the final wing of Nat'l City's unique HALLS OF DESERT GLASS, it is fitting to issue the following proclamation: WHEREASs In recent years National City has attained considerable industrial, commercial and residential fame, and, 'PUMAS: Now the tourist resources of National City have begun to attract national attention and take an important place in the economy. of National City and San Diego County . . . NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That we commend those institutions and organiza- tions making notable contributions to this tourist fame-- namely: - THE NATIONAL CITY MAYTIME BAND REVIflT . , . which, through the energetic spon- sorship of the Nat'l City Chamber of Commerce, and, in aiding the cause of musio ecncation, has spread Nat'l City's name throughout state and nation and has become the largest single annual tourist attraction in San Diego County-- eaoh May drawing 4,000 young musicians and their friends and families from throughout the southwest; THE ANNUAL NATIONAL CITY HArTAIIAN FESTIVAL . . . originated and sponsored by the Nat'l City Recreation Activities Committee, now enlisting the cooperation of organizations throughout the city and now a part of the fabulous FIESTA DEL PACIFICO; (more) Nat'l City Proclamation (Cont.) THE HALLS OP DESERT GLASS . . , which, through the dedication and energy of one man, Hans Lindemanjj„has become a unique and beautiful museum of sun - colored antique glass-- largest of its kind in the world-- and which, through the energetic cooperation of the San Diego Convention and Tourist Bureau, is bringing important notice to Nat'l City... and which this week opens its final wing in time for viewing by visitors to the NINTH ANNUAL MAYTIME BAND I EVIEK; THE NATIONIAL CITY CHILIRENS ZOO . . . now two years old ands splendid example of what a private civic organization (the South Bay Optomists Club) oan do for its city . . . providing delightful hours for Nat'l City children and. helping to perfect the development of Kimball Park; McDINI'S FAMOUS TAVERN . . . the most unique establishment of its kind in the West, an example of what a private business can do to spread the fame of its city and the city's other businesses and institutions; THE COP.m2CIAL AND INDUSTRIAL':: INFLUX AND STANDING OF NAT'L CITY . . . which, besides providing a new, diversified economic base for our city, has made Nat'l City the metropolis of the San Diego South Bay region and constitutes a tourist attraction in itself; THE NATIONAL CITY TOURIST INDUSTRY . . . which has responded to the above oppor- tunities by providing pleasant lodging and restaurant facilities-- empha- sized this week by announcement of Nat'l City's first swimming pool motel; THE FATED $'-BILLION "MOTHBALL" DESTROYER FLEET AND OTHER COMMANDS OF NAT'L CITY'S NAVAL STATION . . . a tremendous asset to the City's commercial) residential and industrial economy, as well as one of the Southwest's great tourist attractions; THE UNPARALLELED NATIONAL CITY ?TEATHER . . never hot, never cold, seldom windy or rainy, smog and das't.free-- the world's mildest climate. THE NAT'L CITY CHAMBER OF COT;. `L'RCE . . . which constantly and expertly sponsors and promotes these and all other local attractions (our famed Boys Club, Paradise Valley Hospital, fine schools, to mention only a few more)-- making known the resources of Nat'l City to all the world; THE NATIOIAL CITY STAR-Nr!"'S AND OTHER SAN DIEGO COUNTY MEDIA . . . diligently telling the Nat'l City story to the citizenry, keeping; pus abreast of the rapid progress in this busiest city of the busiest corner of the United States;. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED . . . THt.T WE URGE ALL CITIZENS TO JOIN in a new (more) -3- Nat'l City Proclamation (Cont.) consciousness of the importance of the tourist and visitor to Nat'l City's economy and growth; and WE URGE ALL TO ATTEND THE M YTIME BAND REVIEW THIS SATUREAY as well as to visit and familiarize themselves with the above -mentioned tourist assets, in addition to gaining a knowledge of the commercial, residential and industrial assets of Nat'l City-- to the end of each citizen gaining a pride in Nat'l City that will make him "a salesman for Nat'l City." IN RECOGNITION OF THIS NEW TOURIST STATUS AND IrETROPOLITAN ASPECT OF NATIONAL CITY, WE HAVE CAUSED this week to be proclaimed as "NATIONAL CITY VISITORS WEEK" and do urge that it be celebrated annually eaoh year during the week preceeding the National City Maytime Band Review.
