HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 15,823RESOLUTION NO. 15,823 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY SUPPORTING THE UNIFIED PORT DISTRICT MASTER PLAN FOR THE 10TH AVENUE AND 24TH STREET MARINE TERMINALS WHEREAS, the San Diego Port District Act of 1962 which created the San Diego Unified Port District lists the promotion of maritime commerce and the improvement and development of terminal facilities as one of its multiple purposes, and WHEREAS, the Unified Port District Master Plan specifies improvement plans for the 10th Avenue and 24th Street Marine Terminals and recent analysis by Temple, Barker and Sloane Corporation described a greater cargo potential in such areas as fruit, automobiles, break bulk and bulk cargos, and WHEREAS, the City of National City recognizes the importance of marine commerce to the economy of San Diego County and the importance of maintaining the jobs of the special skilled workers employed by marine commerce related business. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Port Commissioner of the City of National City is requested to make the development of maritime commerce a high priority. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED in accomplishing this the following should be considered: 1. The increase of manpower and budget for marketing the Port. 2. The Commissioners and Port Director to become more active in the area of attracting maritime commerce. 3. A greater effort made by commissioners to contact shippers at maritime related conferences. 4. Investigation of long range improvements to the 10th Avenue and 24th Street Marine Terminals as outlined in the Master Plan. 5. To work with Shipping Agents more vigorously to increase commerce with the Far East. PASSED and ADOPTED this 13th day of December, 1988. a ,E7-plet5;- GEORGE H.
