HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 2017-76RESOLUTION NO. 2017 — 76 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF $3,000 FROM AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE ("AMR"), AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN APPROPRIATION AND CORRESPONDING REVENUE BUDGET IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,000 FOR THE PURPOSE OF AWARDING THREE 2017 EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS TO SWEETWATER HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES TO PURSUE TRAINING IN FIRE SERVICE OR PREHOSPITAL CARE, SUCH AS EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN AND/OR PARAMEDIC WHEREAS, on June 20, 2006, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2006- 106 entering into an Agreement with American Medical Response ("AMR") to provide basic and advanced life support services within National City, with a provision that AMR would provide annual Emergency Medical Service Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to Sweetwater High School graduates to pursue training in Fire Service or Prehospital Care, such as Emergency Medical Technician and/or Paramedic; and WHEREAS, on November 23, 2010, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2010-259 approving the First Amendment to the Agreement, extending the term of the Agreement for two years, expiring June 30, 2013; and WHEREAS, on June 18, 2013, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2013-88 approving the Second Amendment to the Agreement, extending the term of the Agreement for two years, expiring June 30, 2015; and WHEREAS, on June 16, 2015, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2015-96 approving the Third Amendment to the Agreement, extending the term of the Agreement for two years, expiring June 30, 2017; and WHEREAS, this year, the National City Fire Department received applications from three Sweetwater High School graduates for 2017 Emergency Medical Service Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to pursue training in Fire Service or Prehospital Care, such as Emergency Medical Technician and/or Paramedic; and WHEREAS, scholarship funds may be used for uniforms, books, supplies, and/or to pay for college tuition. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City hereby authorizes the acceptance of $3,000 from American Medical Response, for the purpose of awarding three 2017 Emergency Medical Service Scholarships to Sweetwater High School graduates to pursue training in Fire Service or Prehospital Care, such as Emergency Medical Technician and/or Paramedic. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council authorizes the establishment of an appropriation and corresponding revenue budget in the amount of $3,000 to award three scholarships to Sweetwater High School graduates to pursue training in Fire Services or Prehospital Care, such as Emergency Medical Technician and/or Paramedic.
