RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
APPROVING A SALARY SCHEDULE FOR THE MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEE
GROUP FOR FISCAL YEAR 2018 IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS
OF THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM (CALPERS),
WITH THE REMOVAL OF THE ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF CLASSIFICATION
WHEREAS, all employees of the City of National City receive a rate of pay within
the established salary band for the job classification into which the employee has been hired;
and
WHEREAS, on July 13, 2017, the City of National City Civil Service Commission
unanimously approved a request to exempt the Assistant Police Chief classification from
classified service, thus making it an at -will position; and
WHEREAS, as part of the companion item to approve the Executive employee
group salary schedule, the position of Assistant Police Chief will be included in the Executive
compensation schedule; and
WHEREAS, the change in group is warranted by the span of control, criticality of
the functional area, and the consequence of error.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
National City hereby approves a salary schedule for the Management employee group for Fiscal
Year 2018 in compliance with the requirements of the California Public Employees' Retirement
System (CALPERS).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby approves the removal
of the Assistant Police Chief classification from the Management employee group.
