RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
APPROVING A SALARY SCHEDULE FOR THE EXECUTIVE EMPLOYEE
GROUP FOR FISCAL YEAR 2018 IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS
OF THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM (CALPERS),
INCREASING THE SALARY BANDS FOR DEPUTY CITY MANAGER AND
POLICE CHIEF, AND ADDING A BAND FOR ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF
WHEREAS, all employees of the City of National City receive a rate of pay within
the established salary band for the job classification into which the employee has been hired;
and
WHEREAS, the Fiscal Year 2018 salary schedule for classifications within the
Executive employee group increases the salary bands for Deputy City Manager and Police
Chief as follows:

; and
WHEREAS, on July 13, 2017, the City of National City Civil Service Commission
unanimously approved a request to exempt the Assistant Police Chief classification from
classified service by removing the position from the Management employee group, thus making
it an at -will position; and
WHEREAS, the Civil Service Commission also unanimously approved the
addition of the Assistant Police Chief classification to the Executive compensation schedule with
a salary band of $11,368.50 - $15,000 per month, and an increase to the salary bands for
Deputy City Manager and Police Chief; and
WHEREAS, the change in group is warranted by the span of control, criticality of
the functional area, and the consequence of error.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
National City hereby approves a salary schedule for the Executive employee group for Fiscal
Year 2018 in compliance with the requirements of the California Public Employees' Retirement
System (CaIPERS).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby approves increasing
the salary bands for Deputy City Manager and Police Chief to the rates shown in the grid above,
and adding a salary band for Assistant Police Chief from $11,368.50 to $15,000 per month.
