HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 2022-152RESOLUTION NO. 2022 - 152 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO ENTER INTO A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING AND SITE AGREEMENT WITH LITERACYWORKS AMERICORPS FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING AMERICORPS MEMBERS FOR THE NATIONALCITY PUBLIC LIBRARY LITERACY PROGRAM FOR FISCAL YEAR 2023 WHEREAS, AmeriCorps, a federal agency, brings people together to tackle the country's most pressing challenges through national service and volunteering; and. WHEREAS, ArneriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers serve with organizations dedicated to the improvement of communities and helps make service to others a cornerstone of our national culture; and WHEREAS, California Library Literacy Services (ELLS) has been awarded three years of AmeriCorps funding, through its partnership with the Pacific Library Partnership, ership, in cooperation with the nonprofit LiteracyWorks; and WHEREAS, the ArneriCorps Initiative is intended to increase our literacy programs capacity to provide the community with high-quaiity adult and family literacy and ESL services, recruit new tutors and learners, and bring our literacy program to the next level; and WHEREAS, the National City Public Library has been awarded two full-time member slots for Fiscal Year 2023, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THECITY OF NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE, AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: Section I: That the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager or designee to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding and Site Agreement with Literacyworks ArneriCorps for the purpose of providing AmeriCorps members for the National City Public Library Literacy Program for Fiscal Year 2023, Section 2: That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution and enter it into the book of original Resolutions.
