RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA,
1) AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR DESIGNEE TO ACCEPT GRANT FUNDS
FROM THE NATIONAL RECREATION AND PARK ASSOCIATION FOR THE WALK WITH
EASE PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500, AND 2) AUTHORIZING THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF AN APPROPRIATION AND CORRESPONDING REVENUE BUDGET
IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500.
WHEREAS, the National Recreation and Park Association ("NRPA") is the leading
not-for-profit organization dedicated to building strong, vibrant and resilient communities
through the power of parks and recreation, advancing this vision by investing in and
championing the work of park and recreation professionals as a catalyst for positive change
in service of equity, environmental resilience, and overall health and well-being; and
WHEREAS, the NPRA established the Supporting Healthy Aging in Parks Grant
Program (the "Grant Program") with the purpose of providing grant funds to nonprofit and/or
exempt organizations that provide opportunities for healthy aging in parks, in regions with
high social vulnerability; and
WHEREAS, the City of National City ("City") applied for and received funding under
the Grant Program in 2023 to fund the Walk with Ease program, which is part of the City's
Fifty and Better Senior Programs that provide essential services for seniors in National City
to promote healthy aging, physical fitness, socialization, community engagement, and
recreation; and
WHEREAS, due to the success of the program, NRPA has offered to extend additional
grant funds for an additional round of the Walk with Ease program; and
WHEREAS, City staff recommends the City Council adopts this resolution accepting
the Grant Program funds from the National Recreation and Park Association in the amount
of $2,500 for the Walk with Ease program and authorizing the establishment of an
appropriation and corresponding revenue budget in the General Fund in the amount of
$2,500.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY,
CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE, AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: That the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager or designee to
accept grant funds in the amount of $2,500 from the National Recreation and Park
Association for the Walk with Ease program.
Section 2: That the City Council hereby authorizes the establishment of an
appropriation of $2,500 and a corresponding revenue budget in the General Fund —
Community Services Department.
Section 3: That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this
Resolution and enter it into the book of original Resolutions.
