HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-169 - Approval of the Creation of One (1) New Job Classification Titled Emergency Medical Services CoordinatorRESOLUTION NO. 2025 - 169 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, CREATING A NEW JOB CLASSIFICATION OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES COORDINATOR, AMENDING THE NATIONAL CITY MANAGEMENT POSITIONS SALARY SCHEDULE TO INCLUDE THE NEW JOB CLASSIFICATION, ADDING 1.0 FTE TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT'S AUTHORIZED POSITION COUNT, AND AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE OF $72,453 TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT'S FISCAL YEAR 2025-2026 PERSONNEL BUDGET. WHEREAS, City staff recommends creating the new classification of Emergency Medical Services Coordinator; and WHEREAS, the classification was created to address the dissolution of the Regional Cooperative Care Program ("RCCP"), resulting in each participating agency needing to independently provide essential EMS functions that were previously provided by RCCP; and WHEREAS, the Civil Service Commission of the City of National City approved the creation of the new classification, as shown in Exhibit A, at their regular meeting on November 12, 2025; and WHEREAS, City staff recommends the addition of 1.0 FTE to the Fire Department's current year authorized position count and setting the Emergency Medical Services Coordinator salary range and steps with the Management unit as shown in Exhibit B; and WHEREAS, the proposed salary for the new classification will cost an estimated $173,900 over a one-year time period, and will cost $72,453 over the current fiscal year 2025-2026 adopted budget to fund the position for the remainder of this fiscal year. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE, AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: That the City Council authorizes the creation of the classification of Emergency Medical Services Coordinator. Section 2: That the City Council hereby authorizes the amendment to the Management Salary Schedule to add the Emergency Medical Services Coordinator classification as shown in Exhibit B. Section 3: That the City Council hereby authorizes the addition of 1.0 FTE to the Fire Department's fiscal year 2025-2026 authorized position count. Section 4: That the City Council hereby authorizes General Fund budget appropriations of $72,453 in fiscal year 2025-2026 in the Fire Department's personnel budget. Section 5: That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution and enter it into the book of original Resolutions.
