RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, 1)
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH SAN DIEGO GAS &
ELECTRIC COMPANY (SDG&E) RELATED TO THE INSTALLATION OF THIRTEEN
ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT AND
INFRASTRUCTURE AT THE NATIONAL CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY; AND 2) GRANTING AND
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN EASEMENT ON PARCEL NO. 560-100-04-00
TO SDG&E FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION
INFRASTRUCTURE.
WHEREAS, on March 20, 2018, the City Council of the City of National City ("City")
adopted Resolution 2018-43 authorizing entering into license agreements with San Diego Gas &
Electric Company("SDG&E")for the installation of electric vehicle ("EV") charging stations at City
Hall and the Public Works yard as part of SDG&E's "Power Your Drive" program (the "Program");
and
WHEREAS, on February 2, 2021, the City Council adopted Resolution 2021-06
authorizing entering into another agreement with SDG&E under the Program for installation of EV
charging stations at Las Palmas Park and granting an easement to SDG&E for installation of the
EV charging station infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, SDG&E has approved the City's application for installation of an additional
thirteen (13) EV charging stations and associated equipment and infrastructure, this time at the
National City Public Library (located at 1401 National City Boulevard), to be used for City fleet
vehicles and City employees' personal vehicles, at their own expense, as part of the Program;
and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Program agreement, SDG&E will pay for, construct, own, and
maintain all infrastructure up to the EV charging stations, up to $18,000 per charging port, while
the City will pay for, construct, own, and maintain the EV charging stations themselves, subject
to a potential rebate from SDG&E to the City toward the cost of the EV charging stations; and
WHEREAS, installation of EV charging stations as part of the Program directly supports
National City's Strategic Plan, General Plan and Climate Action Plan goals of pursuing green
initiatives and building a sustainable city.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY,
CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE, AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: That the City Council hereby authorizes the Mayor to execute an
agreement with San Diego Gas & Electric Company related to the installation of thirteen electric
vehicle charging stations and associated equipment and infrastructure at the National City Public
Library as part of SDG&E's Power Your Drive for Workplaces EV Charging Program. The
agreement is attached to the Agenda Report as Exhibit B.
Section 2: That the City Council hereby grants and authorizes the Mayor to execute
an easement on parcel no. 560-100-04-00 to San Diego Gas & Electric Company for the
installation of electric vehicle charging station infrastructure. The easement is attached to the
Agenda Report as Exhibit C.
Section 3: That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this
Resolution and enter it into the book of original Resolutions.
