ITEM TITLE: Resolution of the City Council of the City of National City authorizing the acceptance of the Stone Garden grant in the amount of $657,030.00 and appropriating the expenditure of grant funds for programmatic operations ($337,480.00) and equipment purchases ($319,550.00) including police vehicles, remote camera system, communications equipment and upgrades and tactical equipment. The Stone Garden grant budget period covers federal fiscal year 2010. . PREPARED BY: Lieutenant Lanny Roark DEPARTMENT: Police APPROVED BY: .- p �� PHONE: 336-4524 EXPLANATION: The County of San Diego, through the San Diego Sheriff's Department has received $8,844,033.00 in federal government grant funds from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) passed through the California Emergency Management Agency (CaIEMA) for FY 2010 Operation Stone Garden. As one of 17 participant agencies, the National City Police Department's share of funding is $657,030.00. The police department's participation is governed through a memorandum of agreement with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, who serves as the fiscal agent for the grant. Operation Stone Garden is designed to enhance law enforcement preparedness and operational readiness along the land and water borders of the United States and to address cross -border crime in the region. This is a reimbursable grant with $337,480.00 budgeted for programmatic operations and $319,550.00 budgeted for equipment for federal FY 2010. The grant operational period is from 10/01/201 to 09/30/2013. Unexpended funds from FY 2010 can be carried through the grant operational period. ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW: ORDINANCE: INTRODUCTION: FINAL ADOPTION: STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council accept the Stone Garden Grant award and authorize the purchase of police vehicles, remote camera system, communications equipment and upgrades and tactical equipment.
