HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutionRESOLUTION 2011 — RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF AN APPLICATION FOR A STATE BICYCLE TRANSPORTATION ACCOUNT GRANT FOR THE 4TH STREET COMMUNITY CORRIDOR BIKEWAY PROJECT IN THE AMOUNT OF $700,000, AND COMMITTING TO A LOCAL MATCH FUNDS OF $500,000, FOR A TOTAL PROJECT COST OF $1.2 MILLION WHEREAS, on February 15, 2011, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2011-27, adopting the National City Bicycle Master Plan (the "Plan"), which was prepared concurrently with the National City General Plan Update to ensure consistency between the two documents; and WHEREAS, adoption of the Plan allows staff to pursue grants and other funding opportunities to construct new bicycle facilities citywide, as well as implement educational and encouragement programs; and WHEREAS, the 4th Street Community Corridor Bikeway Project (the "Project") is included in the Plan and is identified on the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) "Priority Project" list; and WHEREAS, the Project, includes the installation of bike lanes, signage, traffic calming measures, Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades, lighting, and landscaping to convert 4th Street into a "Community Corridor"; and WHEREAS, the Engineering Division of the Development Services Department seeks authorization to submit an application for a State Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA) grant for the 4th Street Community Corridor Bikeway Project in the amount of $700,000, with a local match of $500,000, resulting in a total project cost of $1,200,000. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City hereby authorizes the submittal of an application for a State Bicycle Transportation Account grant in the amount of $700,000 for the 4th Street Community Corridor Bikeway Project. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby authorizes the commitment from the City to provide local match funding in the amount of $500,000. PASSED and ADOPTED this 15th day of March, 2011.
