In doing so, it recognizes employees who maintain high standards of personal conduct and make significant contributions to the workplace and community. The employee to be recognized in December 2011 is Lauren Maxilom — Neighborhood Council Specialist By copy of this memo, the employee is invited to attend the Council meeting on Tuesday, December 06, 2011 to be recognized for her achievement and service. Maxilom has been a valuable employee of the City of National City for over six years, all spent within the Community Services Department. Lauren's commitment to the Department takes her the extra mile to serve our City and its residents. She has been an integral part of our Department especially with the recent reduction of staff. Lauren has gladly taken on more responsibility and taken initiative to help make the Department more effective. Lauren possesses exceptional communication and organizational skills which are evident in her current capacity as the Neighborhood Council Specialist. Regular duties of her position include coordinating and running regular meetings and making sure that Action Requests are submitted and responded to in a timely fashion. This tasking requires constant communication and collaboration with other City departments. In addition, Lauren staffs the Community and Police Relations Commission, the Public Art Committee, and serves as a City liason for various special events. Besides these regular duties, Lauren is also an integral part of planning various special events which the Neighborhood Council Program has initiated or become involved in including Quarterly Breakfasts, National Night Out, and Movies in the Park as well as sitting on committees for our much larger events such as the 4th of July Carnival and Parade, Miss National City, and the Tower of Terror. Throughout her tenure, Lauren has accepted all challenges and has participated in all facets of the Department, including recreation, senior services, and public art. More importantly Lauren treats others, including residents, coworkers and external partners with the courtesy they deserve. Lauren's commitment to the community is further exemplified by her participation in outside activities and committees which mean to further the City's mission of providing increased service to our residents. She enthusiastically participates in meetings of our Department's assigned boards and commissions, includes external. partners in our plans and activities, and has become a trusted and respected liaison to our residents. In addition, Lauren has increasingly served as a role model and mentor to her fellow coworkers, especially part-time staff. Finally, Lauren has been involved in starting a City-wide volunteer program to provide citizens a positive creative outlet and the City an opportunity to utilize our community member's skills and abilities on a volunteer basis. On behalf of the Community Services Department, I am extremely honored to nominate Lauren as National City's "Employee of the Month." 1
