AGENDA ITEM:

X Action Information
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
We have historically offered a summer program to our students. Camp WINGS has provided
students with a curriculum -based, fun and novel summer program for many of those years. We
were unable to provide a summer program last year because of the short summer break as we
transitioned from our old calendar to the new South County common calendar. Fortunately, we
are able to provide a program for our students again this year
CURRENT INFORMATION:
Camp WINGS will again be a 4.5-hour program that will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. and end at
1:00 p.m. It will be a literacy based, project -oriented experience open to all district students,
kinder — 6th grade. The program will be similar to the current WINGS After School Program
with fun, hands-on, interesting activities. The theme this summer will be "Comic Power: Make
it a Super Hero Summer!" Students will become action adventure story authors and create their
own super heroes, based on our Peace Builders value -based program. They will develop stories,
create classroom environments depicting these heroes, study related vocabulary, and participate
in other activities that will enhance literacy skills.
