ITEM TITLE: Resolution of the City Council of the City of National City authorizing acceptance of a grant award of $90,000.00 from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant Project 2013 to conduct DUI and traffic related enforcement operations for the Police Department. PREPARED BY: Sergeant Graham Young PHONE: 336-4446 EXPLANATION DEPARTMENT: Police Department 7 APPROVED BY: On July 27, 2012, the National City Police Department was approved to receive $90,000.00 in grant funds from the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). The grant was approved for a one-year period beginning October 1, 2012. This award is based upon a grant proposal submitted to the Office of Traffic Safety for the purpose of reducing the number of persons killed or injured in traffic collisions and alcohol -involved collisions; to reduce fatal and injury hit & run collisions; reduce the amount of motorcycles killed or injured; and to reduce fatal and injury collisions at intersections, involving red Tight runners, and where unsafe speed as a factor. The grant funds allocated to accomplish these goals will be used to fund overtime operations such as DUI saturation patrols, enforcement operations regarding speed, cellular telephone use, red light violations, dangerous intersection enforcement, and motorcycle safety enforcement.
